A short history of the customs house
Built in 1911 to watch the harbour, a hotel since 1962, restored stone by stone in 2019. The story of Verrane in five dates.
1911 to today
The house was built in 1911 as the harbour-master’s office and customs house, which is why every room faces the water and the walls are so thick.
In 1962 the Verrane family bought it, opened eight rooms and a dining room, and ran it for fifty years. The restoration of 2019 kept every original shutter, repaired rather than replaced.
What we kept
The oak floors, the stone stair, the signal room on the roof and eighty-four pairs of shutters, each one numbered and rehung in its own window.
